The Department of Pharmacology was renamed from the School of Pharmacology, which was separated from the School of Biophysics in 1979. The Graduate Institute of Pharmacology was separated from the Graduate Institute of Physiology in 1986. The department is responsible for the mission of course of Pharmacology for.

Currently our department has nine full-time faculty members. The 9 faculty members include four professors (Dr. Shih-Hurng Loh, the current chairman, Dr. Chin-Chen Wu, Dr. Yen-Mei Lee and Dr. Eagle Yi-Kung Huang), one associate professor (Dr. Chih-Chin Shih), one assistant professor (Hsin-Hsueh Shen M.Sc.), two teaching lecturers (Zeng-Zong Lai M.Sc. and How-Yuan Hung M.Sc.), and one promising junior teaching assistant (Pin-Chen Lin).

The Institute of Pharmacology provides an excellent research environment equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Current research interests include human translational pharmacology, molecular and cellular pharmacology, neuropharmacology, behavior pharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology and electro-pharmacology.

Our faculty members not only undertake all teaching duties in pharmacology-related subjects for all undergraduate and graduate students at the NDMC, but also spend a lot of time and energy on student tutorials. An average of ten master's students and two doctoral students are accepted for advanced studies each year. Courses for graduate students include: Seminar, Seminar of Clinical Pharmacy Practice, Advanced Pharmacology, Translational Pharmacology, Principles and Techniques of Pharmacology, Thesis Experiments, Neuropharmacology, Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Selected Topics of Pharmacology, Drug and Cellular Membrane, Presentation and Writing of Biomedical Thesis.
